Todd Chrisley believes God sent him to jail to help others

Todd Chrisley has said that he believes God put him in prison in order to help others.

Speaking to TMZ, the 54-year-old's attorney Jay Surgent said that the things he has seen while behind bars at Flordia's Federal prison Camp Pensacola, which is a minimum-security United States federal prison for male inmates in unincorporated Escambia County, had urged him to act.

The former reality TV star claimed to have witnessed "gross negligence and such total disregard for human life and decency from both the staff and just the entire corrections system."

TMZ also received claims that Chrisley has witnessed "cruel" things which is why he's "planning on using his time, energy, and resources to make prison life tolerable."

When asked for details about these said "cruel" things, he outlined an incident that saw another inmate have a seizure but despite the serious medical emergency, the unnamed male allegedly did not get any aid until at least an hour later.

A representative for the Federal Bureau of Prisons also told the outlet: "While we decline to comment on anecdotal allegations, we can emphatically assure you the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals in our population, our staff, and the public. Humane treatment of the men and women in our custody is a top priority."

It comes after the Chrisley Knows Best star claimed he was being treated like "s***" in prison.

A separate TMZ report stated that Surgent believed Chrisley's "celebrity status" has resulted in some pretty weird occurrences at the prison, including someone taking a photo of him while he was sleeping and his mail allegedly "being destroyed", though it was also said that he can't imagine why someone would do that.

Not only that, it was alleged that the conditions both Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were also living in were not up to standards - with reports of bad plumbing, possible mold, and a lack of air conditioning plaguing the facility.

Their son, Chase Chrisley, also doubled down on this perspective after visiting his parents during an episode of Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley.

"It’s a nightmare," he said back in July. "Now they both have no air conditioning. They are both in states where it gets to be 100+ degrees and there’s no air conditioning."

Savannah also added that at her mom’s prison she "has rattlesnakes just casually slithering on the floor in front of her."

Her brother clarified that they weren’t rattlesnakes but they "were poisonous snakes."

"So she just had snakes literally right there where her bed is," Savannah continued before Chase added: "And then the way they think to apprehend the snake is to mace it."

As a consequence, Chrisley asked to be moved to "home confinement" which seems rather unlikely considering he's doing a 12-year stint behind bars, while his wife got a slightly lesser sentence of seven years.

However, both of them might be doing slightly shorter sentences now as per a report by TODAY, which stated that Chrisley will be doing approximately 10 years while his wife will still be doing just over five.

It comes as the couple was convicted of federal fraud charges and hiding their wealth from tax authorities.
