Unearthed letter Biden wrote to his staff six years ago has made people very emotional

An emotional letter reportedly written by Joe Biden to his personal staff six years ago has been unearthed on social media this week.

Per The Independent, the message was written while Biden was still serving as Vice President under Barack Obama back in 2014, and concerns the importance of his staff taking time off work for important personal events.

The letter was shared by a Twitter user named Dan Barker on November 7, who tweeted to his 24,900 Twitter followers: "By coincidence: exactly 6 years ago today, as Vice President of the USA, Joe Biden sent this note to his staff.

"I presume in the background, thoughts of his first wife & daughter who died long ago; or his son, who died of cancer just a few months after this note. Worth reading. [sic]"

Biden's letter reads:

"To My Wonderful Staff:

"I would like to take a moment and make something clear to everyone. I do not expect nor do I want any of you to miss or sacrifice important family obligations for work.

"Family obligations include but are not limited to family birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, any religious ceremonies such as first communion or bar mitzvahs, graduations, or times of need such as illness or a loss in the family."

The letter continues:

"This is very important to me. In fact, I will go so far as to say that if I find out one of you are working with me while missing important family responsibilities, it will disappoint me greatly.

"This has been an unwritten rule since my days in the Senate. Thank you all for the hard work."

Suffice to say, a number of Twitter users were touched by Biden's kind and thoughtful treatment of his staff.

For instance, one person wrote: "I really like the friendly, businesslike 'this really shouldn't need to be said, but let's all be clear' tone."

Meanwhile, someone else added: "This is what broke the [dam] for me. I’ve been in happy shock all day and this letter let the emotions flow."

Finally, a third person added: "Joe Biden never works on the anniversary of the death of his first wife and baby daughter, always takes that day off to remember them."

A fourth commenter tweeted: "This letter overjoys me, and that's sad -- this should be a standard of human decency, and it isn't in many workplaces. I am nevertheless so glad to see it. Thank you, Mr President-Elect. [sic]"

Then, on Saturday (November 7),  the Democratic candidate and former Vice President was projected by multiple news and media outlets to become the 46th president of the United States.

As of the time of writing, CNN projects that Joe Biden has received 279 electoral votes and a total of 77,558,792 public votes and that Donald Trump has received 214 electoral votes with a total of 72,349,982 public votes.

Biden has been declared the projected winner of the election by NBCCNNBBC News, and many others.

It is important to note that it is common for media agencies to reveal their election projections based on voting analysis and counted ballots.
