Second tragedy hits Disney resort in same week superfan took their own life

A second guest has died at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, just a mile away from the site of another tragedy last week when a Disney superfan died by suicide.

Just after 7:30AM on Tuesday, park staff, medical emergency responders, and police were called to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to reports of a ‘person down’.

Emergency crews rushed to the Walt Disney World Resort

Unfortunately, despite the response from emergency services, a man who had suffered a medical episode died in hospital after the incident.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said in a statement: “A man in his 60s experienced a medical episode and was transported to a local hospital, where, unfortunately, he died.

“There are no signs of foul play.”

The call ‘person down’ could refer to any incident that results in injury or death, including incidents via natural causes.

This incident occurred in the 1500 loop on the campsite Cottontail Curl, which is one of 21 sites on the resort, which has cabins and RV pads, as well as large open green spaces.

That does mean that often staff are less visible than in other areas of the park, and areas can be more isolated than other places where guests stay.

This incident comes after another sad death at Disney

In a separate incident last Tuesday, 31-year-old Summer Equitz died by suicide at the Disney Contemporary Resort.

Equitz, from Naperville, Illinois, had arrived at the park that same day and hadn’t told her family that she was going.

According to the OCSO, she died of ‘multiple blunt impact injuries’ after earlier incorrect reports that she had been struck by the monorail, which goes through the center of the hotel.

10 months earlier, she had revealed that she was pregnant with her first child in a Facebook post.

It is not clear whether she gave birth or not.

Earlier in the month, another woman died after riding the Haunted Mansion ride at the sister site of the Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

There was no suspicion that the ride was unsafe, and the woman in her 60s died following an ‘unfortunate medical episode’ according to a spokesperson.

A representative of the Anaheim Police Department later said that the coroner did not take custody of her body, meaning that no autopsy was conducted following the incident.
