The man captured on chilling Ring camera footage dragging a heavy object from his California apartment is now facing a murder charge—while authorities work to track him down in Peru.
Jossimar Cabrera, 36, has officially been charged with one count of murder, with added allegations of using a knife as a deadly weapon in connection to the death of his 33-year-old wife, Sheylla Cabrera.
The disturbing case began unraveling after neighbors shared surveillance footage from their Lancaster apartment complex showing a man pulling what appeared to be a large, heavy item wrapped in a blanket across the property.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department later confirmed that the video showed “the missing person's husband dragging a large object in a large piece of material.”
Sheylla's body was discovered in the Angeles National Forest on August 16—four days after she was reported missing. A search and rescue team spotted what looked like the same material from the video tossed over an embankment. Sheylla was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Extradition Warrant Issued as Suspect Flees to Peru
As of August 22, authorities have not taken Jossimar into custody, but an extradition warrant has been issued to begin the process of bringing him back to the United States.
“The allegations against this man are horrific, and we will do everything possible to bring him back under our jurisdiction to be held accountable,” said District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. “Domestic violence creates chaos in our communities and shatters families. My office is committed to bringing stability back into the lives of those who have been victimized.”
If convicted, Cabrera could face 26 years to life in state prison.

The couple’s three young sons—who were also listed as missing during the early stages of the investigation—were taken into protective custody in Peru on the same day Sheylla’s body was found. Authorities said they are working closely with both the Mexican and Peruvian consulates to locate and return Cabrera to the U.S.
A Trail of Contradictions and Prior Abuse
The investigation intensified as more details emerged. According to family members who spoke with ABC 7, Jossimar gave several conflicting stories about Sheylla’s disappearance. He allegedly claimed that ICE took her, then said she left with another man, and later insisted she had been in an accident.
Sheylla’s mother revealed her daughter had previously reported Jossimar for domestic violence while they were living in Peru. “The last time they spoke, she told her she would be filing a report against him in Lancaster,” the mother said.
Before homicide detectives got involved, Sheylla and the children were all entered into the missing persons system. As investigators pieced together the timeline and gathered evidence—including the now-viral Ring video—the pieces pointed toward foul play.
According to KTLA sources, a man believed to be Jossimar was briefly detained by police in Peru but was released pending charges. The case is now with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for further action, including the paperwork needed to bring Cabrera back stateside.
