Donald Trump praises Kyle Rittenhouse after meeting at Mar-a-Lago resort after acquittal
Kyle Rittenhouse met with Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort, the ex-POTUS revealed during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Last Friday, the 18-year-old was found not guilty on all counts in his homicide trial more than a year after he fatally shot two men and injured a third at a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
On Tuesday, November 23, four days after Rittenhouse's acquittal, Trump, 75, told Hannity he had met with the teenager since the trial.
He said during the program, per The New York Post: "Really nice man - Kyle. I got to know him a little bit. He called."
"He wanted to know if he could come over and say hello because he was a fan, unlike the other guy," the former president added, referring to President Joe Biden.
He continued: "What he went through, that was prosecutorial misconduct. He should not have had to suffer through a trial. He was going to be dead."
On the weekend after his acquittal, Rittenhouse spoke to Fox News host Tucker Carlson over the weekend about the case and condemned Biden for linking him to white supremacists.
Rittenhouse said in the televised interview: "Mr. President if I can say one thing to you, I would urge you to go back and watch the trial and understand the facts before you make a statement. It is actual malice and defaming my character for him to say something like that."
The young man added: "It's actually quite hysterical how nobody can go back and look at the facts."
He also said that it was "sickening" and a "disgrace" that people can "get away" with spreading "lies" about the case.
Back in September 2020, Biden shared a video on Twitter that featured scenes from the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally, as well as the Kenosha shooting involving Rittenhouse.
In the caption to the video, the president claimed Trump "refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night", effectively branding the teenager a white supremacist.
