The tragic cause of death of a 19-year-old Ohio State University student has now been confirmed.
On Friday (September 26), law enforcement responded to a call before 10:00AM and discovered William Meyers, a third-year accounting student from Fairfield, Connecticut, in the northeast corner of Ohio Stadium.
The university identified the teen and confirmed the circumstances surrounding his death in a statement shared with The Lantern, Ohio State’s student newspaper.

Cause of Death Revealed
On November 10, an autopsy report from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office concluded that Meyers died by suicide.
“Foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” Ohio State said in the statement.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
"Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support," they added.
Meyers’ Legacy: A Dedicated Student and Community Advocate
Meyers was not just a dedicated student but also an active member of his community.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he graduated from Connecticut's Fairfield Ludlowe High School in 2023 and co-founded a charity with his older brother that donated over 5,000 pieces of sports equipment to local centers.
“Some of my core values are respect, ethics, improvement, and integrity all of which I want to bring with me when I enter the workforce.
"In my free time, I enjoy playing word games such as Scrabble as well as learning and performing magic tricks,” he wrote in his profile.

A Pattern of Tragedy at Ohio Stadium
This death marks the second tragedy at Ohio Stadium in just over a year. In May 2024, 53-year-old Larissa Brady died after falling from an upper tier during Ohio State’s commencement ceremony.
Brady’s death, which was also ruled a suicide, occurred just as her daughter was entering the stadium for her graduation.
According to PEOPLE, the late woman had a reported history of bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and anxiety, and had attempted suicide in the past.
“Ohio State is grieving the death of Larissa Brady, a family member of one of our graduates," OSU spokesperson Ben Johnson said in a statement, per CBS News.

Authorities have not disclosed how Meyers entered the stadium or how long he had been there before his death.
Ohio State’s football team was scheduled to play at Washington the day after Meyers was found, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
