Ashley Biden's Insta comment sparks controversy as she announces divorce from husband after 13 years

Ashley Biden, the youngest daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, Dr. Howard Krein, after 13 years of marriage.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Biden filed the paperwork on Monday in Philadelphia.

In a move that captured public attention, Ashley posted a since-deleted Instagram story shortly after the news broke. The video showed her walking through a park, giving a thumbs-up while Beyoncé's Freedom played in the background.

She also shared a quote that read, "New life, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before," accompanied by Lauryn Hill's Freedom Time.

Ashley, 44, married Dr. Krein, a 59-year-old plastic surgeon, in 2012 in a ceremony held in Greenville, Delaware. This was the same church where Ashley had been baptized. The couple lived in a $1.3 million home in Philadelphia, where Krein worked as an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

The pair met in 2010, two years before their marriage, through Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden, who passed away from cancer in 2015.

While Ashley has largely stayed out of the public eye, she has occasionally made headlines for defending her father. Earlier this year, she took to Instagram to defend President Biden amid claims about his cognitive fitness.

After CNN anchor Jake Tapper aired a segment questioning the transparency around Biden’s health, Ashley shared a beach photo with her parents and wrote, “I am so grateful. too grateful to be angry about all this bulls**t.”

In the post, Ashley stated: "The ONLY coverup of this family is a BEACH coverup!!!" She continued, mocking media conspiracy theories, and emphasized her father’s dedication to the country. “The truth is, Dad gave his ALL to America and continues til this day. He NEVER gave up on you,” she wrote, defending her father’s legacy.

Ashley also addressed those questioning her father’s ability to lead during his final months in office, saying, "He aged, YES! As we all do! And the stress of the presidency accelerates. But he was always MORE than capable of doing the job. And a damn good one."

The divorce filing marks a personal turning point for Ashley, who has been through a range of emotional challenges following the loss of her brother Beau and navigating life under the public scrutiny that comes with being a part of a prominent political family.
