Anti-virus tech giant John McAfee says he was arrested for wearing a thong in place of a face mask

Technological giant John McAfee - who ironically rose to prominence in the 1980s after founding the anti-virus company McAfee Associates - has taken to social media to claim he was arrested for wearing a lacy thong in place of a face mask.

Per the New York Post, the 74-year-old took to Twitter on Monday to announce that he had been detained in Norway (according to his tweets) after refusing to wear an appropriate face-covering amid the ongoing pandemic - instead opting for some rather see-through underwear instead.

Taking to Twitter, the eccentric British-born baron wrote: "Trivial issue but waiting for high level beaurocrats [sic] to arrive. Slow b**tards, as you know."

He added in another tweet: "My Coronavirus mask is the problem. I am insisting it is the safest available and I'm refusing to wear anything else — for my health’s sake. Authority!?!?!?!?"

Referring to his group, the Red Scarf Society, John said: "Going to have to cancel the Red Scarf Society meeting. I am so sorry. Note to future adventurers: Always joke with [your] captors. No matter what."

She wrote: "Until he escapes (usual method), bribes someone (very quick – might be out in a few hours), retains the right lawyer (will be a few days) or becomes warden of the jail, in which case we will have to force him out."

Amid the messages, the couple also shared several pictures of John wearing the non-medically-certified "mask".

Janice then added: "[John's] thong mask: It doesn't recycle his exhaled carbon dioxide, like over the ear masks. (Breathing impaired people are exempt from wearing masks because masks impair respiration).

"Masks stop bacteria. Not viruses people! He was arrested for what he believes. Thank you my love."

Roughly five hours later, Janice posted then video of herself in a waiting room at the detention center drinking champagne.

"John is the only person I know that can get you champagne while being detained," she wrote.

She added: "In the meantime, I'm headed home with our bodyguards and hopefully we'll be hearing from him in a few hours. Take care!"

Upon his release, John then once again took over his Twitter account to announce that he was "back in Belarus and, with the exception of a black eye, no worse for wear.

"I cannot speak publicly about my fun and games yesterday, regrettably, but after a few hours sleep I will be back with my usual stream of conscious [sic]."

Over the weekend, McAfee shared another picture of himself wearing a thong as a mask, writing that Janice "actually softened the fabric" prior to him wearing it.

In addition to this, he also posted hit own personal thoughts on the ongoing pandemic. He wrote: "Yes, coronavirus, although large for a virus, is still 2,000 times smaller than a large bacteria, which masks do stop.

"And yes, I know viruses in droplets are released when the droplets evaporate. Duh!! But … I have breathed through this mask. What could survive?"
