Tamar Braxton has revealed she is recovering from a frightening accident that left her seriously injured and reflecting on life in a new way.
The 48-year-old singer and reality star shared the news on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, August 19, telling fans she had endured what she described as a near-death experience over the weekend. In her post, Braxton said she had been discovered in a pool of blood after suffering severe facial injuries.

“I struggled to write this but everyone keeps calling me and honestly, I can’t even really talk anymore I’m so weak,” she began, via PEOPLE. “I almost died Sunday. I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury.”
She explained that the aftermath has only become harder to endure. “As the days go by the worse it is. I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins… pray for me for real. I don’t even know what happened to me.”
Braxton added 'Spirit Lead Me' by Clavier as the soundtrack to her post, underlining the spiritual weight of her message. Shortly afterward, she reposted a page from the Bible that included Proverbs 31, a passage often associated with resilience and the strength of women. Hours before her revelation, she had also shared a simple note of gratitude: “Thank you God for waking me up today.”
The singer’s health journey has been a focus for her throughout the year. Earlier in March, she told fans she was committed to getting healthier as she prepared for her tour, Yahoo reported at the time. In a candid Instagram post, she shared a video of herself rehearsing and a photo of her standing on a scale, writing, “Bday is over so no more drinks…. No more carbs… all body and VOICE!!!” She emphasized that she wanted to be at her best both physically and vocally for her fans.

Despite the severity of her injuries, Braxton is continuing to show resilience, something that has defined much of her life and career. Most recently, she appeared alongside her sisters on the WEtv reality series The Braxtons, which was created to honor the memory of their late sister Traci, who died in 2022 from esophageal cancer. The show was deeply personal for the family, with Toni Braxton explaining in the trailer: “The main reason for wanting to do The Braxtons again is because of Traci.” Their mother, Dr. Evelyn “Miss E” Braxton, added that it had been Traci’s last wish.
Season 2 of the series has already been renewed, and the family remains united in paying tribute to Traci. In April, on what would have been her 54th birthday, Tamar shared a heartfelt video from one of her concerts where fans lifted their flashlights as Traci’s song 'Last Call' played. “Happy Heavenly Birthday beautiful @therealtracibraxton,” Tamar wrote on Instagram. “We miss you down here sis!! But I know God didn’t want to see you sick like that so, he brought you home to himself to heal you.”
As Tamar continues her own recovery, she has made it clear that the ordeal has profoundly shifted her outlook. For her fans and family, her survival is a reminder of both her vulnerability and her strength.
