Stephanie Meyer reveals that two more 'Twilight' books are coming

The Twilight saga - responsible for, if nothing else, turning a whole new generation of would-be pianists on to Debussy's Clair De Lune - is far from over just yet, it would appear.

You might have been forgiven, of course, for assuming that the vampiric high school romance caper had already faded long into culture's rear view mirror in much the same way as saying 'YOLO' and wearing shutter shades.

It was, after all, 2012 that the final movie in the saga - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two - was released. Yet such is the enduring power of teen nostalgia that author Stephanie Meyer has since released a new installment - Midnight Sun - which has catapulted straight to the top of literature charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Remarkably, Midnight Sun sold an astonishing 1m copies in its first week of publication. While the book may not have blown away many critics thus far, it must be noted that the Twilight saga was never lauded for its linguistic flair or genre-spanning wisdom.

And so, really, should it come as a surprise to anyone that Meyer has revealed that plans for two further Twilight novels are already in the works?

Even if, as she previously has, the author eschewed the notion of more books in the series, telling Variety, "I get further away [from Twilight] every day. For me, it’s not a happy place to be.”

Yet on Monday, Meyer announced at an online event for Books-A-Million that she has designs on two further books based in the Twilight world.

“There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write. I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it’s there. I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new,” she said.

An original manuscript draft for Midnight Sun was leaked online 12 years ago, leading to Meyer shelving the novel. In August this year, she revealed to the New York Times that she still doesn't know how the leak happened:

“I don’t think there was any bad intent. I think people made copies instead of returning it to me when they had been asked to read it. But that wasn’t as scary. It was when I thought that maybe someone was reading things on my computer that I was more frightened by it.”
