The 52-year-old actor, who married former Miss World Audra Mari, 31, in 2022 and shares a 17-month-old son named Shepherd with her, said the treatment is part of his commitment to "overall wellness."

Speaking to Men’s Health Lab, Duhamel explained: “It’s important to her that I stay as young and virile for as long as I can. I think there’s a sense of overall well-being that comes with it - just having that energy and drive to be better in every area of life.

"A better dad, a better friend, a better business owner. You don’t taper off like you normally might, and that’s one of the biggest benefits, both mentally and physically.”

He shared that his interest in hormone therapy had been building for some time, although it wasn’t something people around him openly discussed. That's when he decided to undergo testosterone replacement therapy.

According to the National Health Service, testosterone levels decline progressively within men as they age, so testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can assist with improving symptoms many men experience – like fatigue, depression, irritability, low libido, erectile dysfunction, reduced strength, and much more.

Though, it should be noted that, as a result of using testosterone replacement, natural production of testosterone may be reduced, which may also lead to a reduction in sperm production.

This could mean that fertility will be affected by going onto testosterone replacement therapy, which is something that men considering going on TRT should keep in mind.

“I’d been hearing about testosterone replacement therapy for a while, but it wasn’t really talked about," he said. "I eventually took a personal inventory of how I was feeling and realized I wasn’t quite where I had been five or ten years earlier. I got tested, found out my levels were low, and decided to give it a try.”

Duhamel, who also shares an 11-year-old son, Axl, with ex-wife and pop star Fergie, said the treatment has made a significant impact on his life.

“It really changed my world. I literally got my mojo back,” he said, via PEOPLE. “At this point, it’s not so much about looking a certain way, it’s about staying active and present for my kids.

"I want to be able to run around, roll in the dirt, and enjoy life with them the way I could when I was younger.”
