Diane Keaton chilling 911 call released with harrowing two-word plea for medical help

The final moments of Hollywood legend Diane Keaton have been revealed through a chilling 911 call made on the morning of her death. The Oscar-winning actress passed away on Saturday, October 11, at her home in California at the age of 79.

According to a recording obtained by TMZ, emergency dispatchers called for the Los Angeles Fire Department to respond to a report of a “person down” at Keaton’s address shortly after 8AM. The actress was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A family spokesperson confirmed the tragic news, asking for privacy as loved ones mourn the loss of the Annie Hall and Something’s Gotta Give star.

Friends say Keaton appeared “very thin” weeks before death

Keaton’s close friend, Carole Bayer Sager, spoke with People about seeing the actress just weeks before her passing, and being shocked by her frail appearance. “I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,” Sager said. “She had lost so much weight.”

Sager, 81, explained that Keaton had temporarily relocated to Palm Springs earlier this year after wildfires damaged her Los Angeles home. “When she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost,” the Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter recalled.

Despite her declining health, Sager described Keaton as “a magic light for everyone,” adding: “She just lit up a room with her energy. She was so special.”

Another longtime friend told PEOPLE that Keaton’s health “fell off a cliff” in recent months. “She declined very suddenly. It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit,” they said.

“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”

Al Pacino’s heartbreaking regret

In the wake of Keaton’s death, reports surfaced about her former boyfriend and Godfather co-star Al Pacino, who allegedly regretted never marrying her.

A confidante told Daily Mail: “Looking back, Al admits the love of his life was Diane, who he’s always called ‘an amazing woman.’ I know he’ll forever regret not making his move when he had the chance.”

The pair’s romance began in the 1970s during the filming of The Godfather trilogy and lasted on and off until 1987.

Hollywood pays tribute

Tributes from across Hollywood poured in following Keaton’s passing. Leonardo DiCaprio called her “brilliant, funny, and unapologetically herself,” while Bette Midler remembered her as “a complete original” who was “without guile or competitiveness.”

The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola honored his longtime collaborator, writing: “Words can’t express the wonder and talent of Diane Keaton. Everything about her was creativity personified.”

A legacy that defined generations

Over her five-decade career, Diane Keaton earned four Academy Award nominations, winning Best Actress in 1978 for Annie Hall. Her unforgettable roles in The First Wives Club, Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, and Something’s Gotta Give cemented her as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and beloved stars.

Her death marks the loss of an enduring spirit; a woman whose individuality, humor, and creative brilliance changed the face of American cinema forever.
