Charlie Hunnam made incredible gesture to Addison Rae after she was filmed tied half-naked to chair during Ed Gein Monsters
Netflix’s latest true-crime drama Monster: The Ed Gein Story is already making headlines, not only for its chilling subject matter but also for its star-studded cast.
One of the biggest surprises? Addison Rae joins the series in a key role that’s already generating major buzz.
Rae, who recently dropped what many fans are calling the pop album of the year, has been proving she’s more than just a social media star.
After her breakout performance in Eli Roth’s slasher hit Thanksgiving, Rae demonstrated she had genuine horror chops. Her role in Monster has pushed that even further.
In the series, Rae plays Evelyn Hartley, a tragic character caught in the twisted world of serial killer Ed Gein, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. Her storyline involves some of the darkest, most disturbing moments in the show; scenes that Hunnam admits were emotionally difficult to film.
Charlie Hunnam praises Addison Rae’s performance
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hunnam opened up about working with Rae on The Ed Gein Story and the atmosphere on set during its most gruesome scenes.
“Everybody’s process is different and everybody’s comfort level and reaction to the darkness we were bringing to life is different,” Hunnam explained.
“With Addison, that was one of the darker, more challenging scenes; and for some reason, we just kept laughing between takes.”
Despite the grim subject matter, Hunnam said Rae handled everything with remarkable professionalism and emotional depth.
“She’s actually an amazing actor,” he continued.
“She’d be laughing, then as soon as the camera rolled, she was immediately pouring tears, screaming, and doing such a great job.
"I’ve got my own process, but I also try to be super reflective of everyone else’s and make it feel super safe for everybody.”
Creating a safe space on a dark set
Given that Monster: The Ed Gein Story explores one of America’s most horrifying real-life murder cases, maintaining a safe and respectful environment on set was essential.
Hunnam emphasized that even amid the disturbing subject matter, the cast worked hard to keep the energy positive and supportive.
The actor noted that the balance between realism and emotional well-being was key to getting authentic performances from the cast; especially for scenes as psychologically intense as those between Ed Gein and Evelyn Hartley.
Addison Rae’s rising Hollywood career
Rae’s casting in Monster marks another major step in her fast-growing acting career.
After facing early criticism for her Netflix debut in He’s All That, the performer turned her reputation around with a well-received turn in Thanksgiving; proving she can handle complex, emotionally demanding roles.
