Death Row killer's haunting final words before execution revealed

A death row inmate who murdered an elderly couple 19 years ago while stalking his ex-girlfriend shared some haunting final words just before he was executed.

Scott Eizember had been convicted of murdering the Oklahoma couple - 76-year-old AJ Cantrell and his 70-year-old wife Patsy - on October 18, 2003.

The 62-year-old had broken into their home to spy on his ex-girlfriend Kathryn Smith, who lived across the street. According to The New York Post, Eizember had attacked the Cantrells when they returned home, fatally shooting Patsy and bludgeoning AJ to death.

Following this, Eizember then assaulted his ex-girlfriend's 63-year-old mother and 16-year-old son in her home, before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle. He led police on a 37-day manhunt, which has since been regarded as one of the largest manhunts in Oklahoma's history, per The Daily Mail.

Eizember had reportedly hidden in a forest for close to one month, before continuing on to Arkansas. It was there that he'd kidnapped a woman and her doctor husband at gunpoint, driving them to Texas in a stolen vehicle.

The outlet reported that Eizember was eventually convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to 150 years in prison, plus an additional 25 years on top for kidnapping the doctor and his wife. In December, Eizember stated to a parole board (via Fox News): "I make no excuses. I belong in prison. I've said that right from the start, and I apologize profusely to all the victims and when I say all, I mean the entire Creek County community."

This week, he was executed via lethal injection. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond, who was present for the execution, made a statement following his execution, saying: "It was my solemn duty this morning to be present for the execution of Scott James Eizember, whose terrible crimes shattered a loving family and sentenced them to a lifetime of grief and loss."

He continued: "After nearly 20 years, justice is served. I understand that nothing can ever lessen the pain of a loved one's death, but I pray that today brings closure and some measure of peace to the Cantrell family."

The Mirror reported that the convicted felon had made some chilling final words soon after the intravenous line was put in his arm.

"I'm at peace," he said. "My conscience is clear, completely. I love my children."

At 10:01 AM on Thursday (January 12) the lethal drugs began flowing through the line, and by 10:15 AM Eizember was pronounced dead.
