Speaking at the awards ceremony, Streep revealed that she does "know something about real terror". "The two times in my life when I was threatened and dealt with real physical violence, I learned something about life that I wouldn't have otherwise, and I was lucky because my instincts served me well." During one traumatising experience, she recalls having to "play dead and wait until the blows stopped". However, in another incident, Streep most definitely wasn't a victim. In fact, she and fellow actress-slash-pop-star, Cher were the heroes. The 68-year-old actress revealed that she and Cher once saved a woman from a mugger: "someone else was being abused, and I just went completely nuts and went after this man. Ask Cher - she was there. And the thug ran away, it was a miracle," Streep said.
And, of course, the internet had a field day with the knowledge that two veritable icons teamed up, Batman and Robin style, to take down a Bad Man.
"Women do know something particular about coming to the danger place. We come to it disadvantaged through the many millennia preceding our present moment, and because of our vulnerability, we anticipate danger, we expect it, we’re hyper-alert to it."
