Man's bedroom goes viral after his girlfriend called it an 'instant red flag'
A man went viral last week after admitting that his girlfriend absolutely hates his room, and even went as far as calling it an “instant red flag.”
Taking the issue to Reddit, it appeared his partner wasn’t the only alarmed by the scene.
Shared in the “male living space” subreddit, the 26-year-old man posted a photo of his room alongside the caption: “My girlfriend hates me room. I live on my own right now and she saw my room and said it is an instant red flag.”
The post blew up attracting thousands of comments and was then shared across social media, including Instagram, where it sparked an entirely new wave of opinions.
Now, at first glance, you might not think the room is that bad. There aren’t any strange posters, or huge boxes of tissues and tubs of Vaseline, nor are there mountains of clothing or dirty plates and glasses on the ground. It’s all very simple.
However, it’s not pared down in a Scandinavian minimalist way. Next to the bed is a large piece of fitness equipment, and if that wasn’t imposing enough, there’s also a giant monitor at the foot of the bed. The look is finished off with a large speaker, black bedsheets, and a navy-and-red duvet.
One Reddit user wrote: “It looks like you live in a physical rehabilitation facility,” while another chimed in with: “I said halfway house, but that works too. Or an actual rehab, even.”
Poor man had his space ripped apart even more when things took a darker turn. A third person added: “I'm a nurse and this literally looks like the depressing hell hole rehab/nursing home SNFs we have here; basically holes that people die in.”
One particularly invested commenter offered a full redesign plan, suggesting: “What everyone ITT is saying: Mount the TV on the wall. Get a proper bed set with comforter (generally matching colours), move the exercise equipment to another area or room, add some warm lighting, and a wall poster/art to make it cool and inviting (and no, preferably not some cringey WWE s*** with men's faces on it looking like they're popping a haemorrhoid or some neckbeard-looking wolf and mountain pic).”
Other people had more nuanced responses. “It looks like when you're playing Animal Crossing and just randomly placed down furniture items for rooms you don't have yet,” one person wrote.
Another summed it up perfectly: “Room looks like a hostage situation between rest and self-improvement.”
The post was eventually shared on Complex’s Instagram, where the man managed to find some support. One person commented: “I actually love it.” Another user declared: “Health is wealth. Focus on you king.” Someone else added: “All the essentials are right there. This is iconic.”
One commenter even flipped the script entirely: “His room is equivalent to a woman’s bedroom with 50 decorative pillows on the bed with a mirror, dresser and nightstand!! I love this for him protect your peace my guy!!”
Others echoed the sentiment, writing: “This guy has his priorities straight. Happy for bro ngl” and simply: “I fw this room.”
Would this room be a red flag to you? Sound off in the comments.
