'Hamstering' sex trend explained as couples have started doing it in their cars

If you thought sex trends were weird already, then "hamstering" could take things to the next level.

I'll be honest, it seems like every week people are coming up with bizarre new ways to spice up their love life.

Some of them seem to have some logic to them, while others are just incredibly bizarre, and it makes you wonder who came up with the idea.

Before we get into the description, have a think about what "hamstering" might mean... and the clue is that you need a car for it to work.

The trend first gained traction on TikTok under hashtags like #hamstering and #thirstyhamster, with millions of curious views.

And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.

The term comes from the way a hamster drinks water through a spout, except in this case, the “spout” is a penis sticking through the sunroof of a car, per VICE.

On paper, it sounds simple. In practice, not so much. Not only does it require a willing partner and a car with a functioning sunroof, but also some serious acrobatics.

As one TikTok creator put it while testing out the logistics: “I don’t know how I’m supposed to reach that.”

Others have pointed out the obvious risks: sunroofs were never designed for this, and accidentally hitting the close button could turn a kinky moment into a bloody nightmare.

Creator @Jen_nnifer attempted to demonstrate a PG version of the position, ultimately suggesting that the person on the roof should stand upright with their legs inside the car rather than lying flat across the metal.

“That would be more discreet anyway,” she noted - though how discreet “hamstering” could ever be is debatable.

Even Tesla drivers got in on the conversation. Content creator Jeremy Judkins joked that his high-tech car was blocking him from joining in on the trend.

“It’s not fair. My Tesla is stopping me from doing internet trends,” he laughed, adding that while some Tesla models do have sunroofs, the brand’s own safety guidelines explicitly warn against sticking body parts through them due to the risk of “flying debris” or “tree branches.”

Of course, it’s unclear how many people are actually trying “hamstering” versus simply poking fun at the ridiculous concept.

Still, like other infamous internet curiosities - sploshing, “shallowing,” or even giantess fetishes - it has secured its place in the ever-expanding lexicon of weird sex trends.

As one commenter summed it up: “I think people are having fun becoming more liberated with sexuality etc but the logistics just don't work for me.”
