Floyd Mayweather announces he is taking on Logan Paul in an exhibition fight

Floyd Mayweather, widely considered to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all time, has announced that he will be taking on YouTuber Logan Paul (who has a professional boxing record of 0-1) in a "special exhibition" fight.

Mayweather, who won world titles in five different weight classes and finished his professional boxing career with an unblemished record of 50-0, has been involved with several of the richest bouts in the sport's history.

In 2015, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao faced off in one of the most highly anticipated bouts of all time that became the richest in the history of boxing. The action in the ring did not live up to the monumental hype surrounding the event and arguably came several years later than would have produced a more dramatic spectacle.

Mayweather last fought professionally in 2017, when he beat UFC megastar Conor McGregor in a crossover bout that once again became one of the richest in the sport's history.

For his own part Logan Paul has fought once as a professional boxer, when he lost to fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019.

Announcing the bout on his Instagram page, Floyd Mayweather wrote:

Logan's brother Jake Paul recently fought on the undercard of the Mike Tyson/Roy Jones Jr. exhibition card in a bout that attracted widespread criticism after former NBA guard Nate Robinson was brutally knocked out in the second round.

Some questioned the wisdom of granting Robinson a license to fight in the immediate aftermath of the bout.

Legendary fighter Amanda Serrano wrote on Twitter, "They need to STOP this Stupid Celebrity boxing thing. Boxing is a serious game. Nothing to be doing for YouTube likes. Most amateurs turning pro fight 4 rds these guys debuting in a 6 rdr. Someone’s going to get really Hurt one day. Not cool at All"

Former world super-flyweight champion Kal Yafai tweeted that it was "scary" that Nate Robinson had been licensed to fight in a professional bout.

The former Knicks and Bulls guard required medical assistance in the ring after the contest.
