Sean Penn says 'cowardly genes' have led to men 'surrendering jeans for a skirt'
Sean Penn has claimed "cowardly genes" are leading people to "surrender their jeans and put on a skirt".
The actor spoke about his views on masculinity during a recent interview with The Independent, saying: "I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized."
The 61-year-old went on: "I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them.
"There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt."
He has recently split from his third wife Leila George. Penn was also wed to Madonna from 1985 until 1989 and then to actress Robin Wright from 1996 until 2010. He has also dated Charlize Theron.
Sean's 30-year-old daughter, Dylan Penn, was also present for the interview and went "quiet" and "stared into space" following her father's comments.
Earlier this month he said he is "glad" he is old and won't have to "deal with" where the world is heading in the near future.
The actor admits he feels "frustrated" with how things are going in life, and believes one of the main issues around the globe is people are too quick to say things they don't necessarily mean to make them look good.
"I'm a little frustrated with the world. I'm glad I'm old and won't be having to deal with where this stuff is going," he said.
"We give too much of a s*** about what we are going to be accused of by people who want to be self-righteous because they can get a quick reward."
"And they're self-righteous hypocritically - they damn this, but don't worry about why kids are being bombed in Yemen, because it's not getting them into a club right away," the actor added.
In October, Penn's wife Leila, 29, filed for divorce just over a year after they married in July 2020.
The news came after it was previously claimed Sean- who also has son Hopper, 28, with Robin - had to "win back" Leila after their relationship began as an on/off romance in 2016 and continued for several years.
