Social media users were left stunned by Greta Thunberg's brilliantly savage response to the news that Andrew Tate has been detained in Romania following their online feud.
The 36-year-old former kickboxer - who gained controversy for his misogynistic views - was reportedly detained by Romanian police after they found the villa he was staying at with his brother Tristan on Thursday (December 29).
According to the Independent, the two men were allegedly arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group. It is also assumed that the capture may not have happened if Tate didn't post a failed comeback video addressed to the 19-year-old activist on Twitter.
Tate and Thunberg have been feuding for the past few days after she brutally took him down when he promised to send her details of the environmentally damaging emissions caused by his 33 cars.
Watch the video below:Some social media users and outlets have claimed that law enforcement used the footage Tate posted in response to Thunberg's tweet - which featured pizza boxes from a local chain, Jerry’s Pizza - as evidence that he was in the country. He was then arrested within 24 hours of posting the video to social media.
However, Ramona Bolla - a spokesperson for Romanian anti-organized crime agency DIICOT - has confirmed to AP that although the pizza box theory is "funny", it is not true.
It has since been reported that the notorious internet personality and his brother have reportedly been under investigation since April.
As cited by The Guardian, prosecutors stated that six women who were allegedly sexually exploited by the organized criminal group have been identified.
"The four suspects … appear to have created an organized crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialized websites for a cost,” prosecutors said. "They would have gained important sums of money."
A spokesperson for Tate told the Daily Mirror that he could not provide any details regarding the reports, but added: "However, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can."
Meanwhile, on Friday morning (December 30), the climate campaigner took to Twitter to respond to the reports that their social media dispute had played a part in Tate's arrest.
Read Thunberg's tweet below:She cheekily wrote: "This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes," and within an hour, the post amassed 500k likes on the platform.
Many online users also shared their own quippy responses to Thunberg's tweet and joked that she deserves to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work.
One user said: "Greta is stumping for the Nobel Prize for epic sick burns and I am HERE FOR IT."
Another wrote: "Frantically googling how to nominate someone for Nobel prize for a second time."
A third commented: "Give Greta the Nobel prize. She has saved humanity and her work for society will forever be remembered for this act."
The unlikely online rivalry between the two began on Tuesday (December 27) when the influencer attempted to bait the environmental campaigner into a discussion about the emissions of his car collection.
He went on to list the specifications for his Bugatti and Ferraris, before asking Thunberg for her email address so "I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions".
The following day, the activist replied to Tate with a response that garnered 3.3 million likes, writing: "Yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalld***[email protected]."
The former Big Brother contestant initially responded to Thunberg with a tweet that read: "How dare you?!" - but then he later shared a video response - which reportedly led to arrest - claiming that the teenager was referring to herself with the fake email address in her post.
