Alex Rodriguez says Jennifer Lopez is 'nervous' over 'responsibility' of Biden inauguration performance

There are few performers out there as accomplished, or as beloved, as Jennifer Lopez.

Indeed, after she blew us all away with her astonishing halftime show alongside Shakira in Miami at the Super Bowl earlier last year, it's hard to think of what could possibly rattle her.

However, if her partner Alex Rodriguez is to be believed, then her next scheduled gig might be the most nerve-wracking of her career thus far. Hardly surprising, considering that she's due to perform at Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday, January 20.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Rodriguez spoke about the upcoming inauguration performance, and his fiancé's nervousness, in a virtual interview with talk show host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

In the interview in question, the 45-year-old former Yankees shortstop told Fallon:

"It's been such a crazy year for her. So many blessings, but to think in a span of 12 months, she's done the Super Bowl, New Year's and now the inaugural, it's unbelievable."

Take a look at Rodriguez's interview with Jimmy Fallon in the video below:

Rodriguez continued:

"What's interesting is she's most nervous about Washington D.C. because of the responsibility. She wants more than anything, like all of us, to bring people together, to inspire. Music and sports does that better than anything."

Teasing the performance a little more, he added: "She has something really cool [planned]. You're going to be surprised. You're gonna love it."

Lopez first announced that she would be performing at the inauguration ceremony in a post she shared with her 45.2 million followers on Twitter on Thursday, January 14.

The 51-year-old chart-topper and the former MLB icon publically endorsed their support for Joe Biden during the height of the President-elect's campaign, and even spoke to Joe and Jill Biden via video link in a post they shared on Facebook.

In the video in question, Lopez spoke about the negative impact that the coronavirus has had upon the Latin American community and expressed her hope that Biden would be able to unite an increasingly partisan American public.

Take a look at J-Lo and A-Rod's chat with the Bidens in the video below:

Lopez stated: "For me, it's [about] unifying the nation again, getting rid of this hate. I hate thinking about my kids walking around in a world where it's okay to be racist or prejudiced because our administration says it's okay.

"That, to me, is really sad because it's not the country that I believe I grew up in. Latinos have been one of the hardest [hit] communities by COVID."

Meanwhile, Rodiguez stated: "I think about those young Latinos out there [and] African Americans, all of us, all of them, that need help. [I hope] they get the support that they need."

Per ABC News, the swearing-in ceremony has been adjusted to accommodate a largely-remote audience as a result of social distancing measures during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Security measures have also been amped up in the wake of the Capitol riots on January 6, with Presidential Inauguration Committee CEO Tony Allen telling Variety: "Our first priority is safety."

"While many of us will be watching safely from our homes, we are creating real moments of connection that highlight a new inclusive American era of leadership that works for and represents all Americans."
