'Mighty Ducks' star Shaun Weiss celebrates more than 270 days sober with new teeth

Substance abuse can take a serious toll on a person's body and leave them with lasting and often devastating reminders of their addiction.

But now, to celebrate 270 days of sobriety, Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss has proudly shown off his new teeth, and he looks absolutely fantastic.

Concern for the former child star arose when pictures of him were circulated across social media back in 2018.

Some of these images were mugshots, taken following arrests throughout 2018. Respective charges against the former star were for petty theft, public intoxication, and possession of a controlled substance.

Weiss' situation was particularly heartbreaking for fans of the 'Mighty Ducks' trilogy, where he starred as goalie Greg Goldberg in the hit Disney movies.

However, he was determined to turn his life around and vowed to seek help for his mental health problems and addiction.

Now, the 42-year-old has been sober for 270 days, and to celebrate the achievement, LA dentist Dr. Gabe Rosenthal gave him a free set of new teeth with an estimated worth of between $50,000 and $100,000.

Weiss' new smile was unveiled on a Gofundme page created to help him get sober by his friend Drew Gallagher.

The GoFundMe page features various before and after pictures of Weiss, documenting his hard, but incredibly worthwhile road to sobriety.

Because the dental work was carried out for free, the funds raised will now be used to pay for other aspects of Weiss' recovery.

"[It's] allowed Shaun to use the GoFundMe funds to pay rent at his sober-living as well as buy some groceries," Gallagher wrote in an update. "He's even got an inexpensive laptop so he can access the internet."

"Still a long road ahead but growing each week!"

Back in January, Weiss was arrested for breaking an entry while high on meth.

Gallagher has since been providing updates on his friend's road to recovery since setting up the GoFundMe back later that month.

Vowing that he wouldn't abandon his friend, he told People magazine at the time: "He's sick, he's mentally ill. He's just sick and everybody gives up on him."

Thank goodness for people like Drew! His dedication to his friend has proven that there is hope for everyone - all they need is support.
