Jeremy Renner apparently wrote a heartbreaking goodbye note after almost dying in a snowplow accident earlier this year.
The 52-year-old was rushed to hospital on New Year's Day while attempting to stop his seven-ton snow plow from hitting his nephew, while the pair cleared the roads around his home in Nevada.
As reported by CNN, the sheriff's office stated: "When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully (snowplow) to avoid injury to [his nephew], he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over. The Pistenbully rolled over him and continued down the road."
Fans were left concerned for the Hawkeye star as he was reported to be in a "critical but stable" condition following the accident on New Year's Day, with the actor later revealing that he had broken more than 30 bones in his body, had a collapsed lung, and had his liver punctured by a broken rib.
Now, in a snippet from his first public interview since the traumatic accident, Renner has admitted that he thought he was going to die - saying that he was "grateful" his nephew was there to come to his rescue. "If I was there on my own, It would have been a horrible way to die. And surely I would have. Surely," he told ABC's Diane Sawyer, per The Independent.
"But I wasn't alone, it was my nephew, sweet Alex and the rest of the cavalry came," he said. Though, he was convinced that he was close to death, so frantically wrote down notes on his phone. "So I'm writing down notes on my phone, and last words to my family," Renner continued, clearly very emotional.
In another sneak peek at Renner's interview he told Sawyer that he was "awake through all of it", even adding that he would do it again if it meant saving his nephew. "I would do it again. It was coming right at my nephew. I would do it again."
A few weeks following the accident, Renner took to his Instagram account to update his fans and followers on his condition. "Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years …. Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love [...]," he wrote.
"I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all," Renner's caption concluded.
Recently, Renner paid a heartfelt tribute to his daughter Ava Berlin, who just celebrated her 10th birthday. The Avengers star shares Ava - his only child - with his ex-wife, Canadian model Sonni Pacheco. The pair were married in 2014 and divorced the following year.
Taking to social media, the Academy-Award nominee posted on his Instagram story: "Happy 10th Birthday to you!!!! So very proud of you in every way. Your hugs and your love, have healed me so incredibly fast. I stand up for you, and I am stronger than before because of you. I am your Father, I am your protector, and I am only yours. I love you, Daddy."
Renner's full sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer is set to air on ABC this Thursday (April 6).
