Jackie Chan has surprised fans after he admitted that he won't be leaving any of his $400 million fortune to his children.
Now, Chan has had a long and illustrious career in the entertainment industry which started all the way back in 1962 when he started taking on minor roles in small films. Slowly he progressed to bigger blockbusters, including The Karate Kid, Rush Hour, and Bleeding Steel.
Over that time, he's managed to secure himself a massive fortune, with Forbes estimating that the 68-year-old is now worth a whopping 400 million.
The outlet also added that his films have grossed more than $2.6 billion at the worldwide box office.
So with that being said, you would think that his children are guaranteed a somewhat comfortable life, but according to Chan, he won't be leaving a dollar of his fortune to them.
Speaking in his 2015 autobiography Never Grow Up, the Vanguard star explained that he always wanted his son, Jaycee Chan, to work his way up in the world.
Chan wrote all about the instances when he and his son didn’t seem to see eye to eye on things.
While growing up, Jaycee was apparently careless with resources like electricity.
The Karate Kid actor revealed that after coming back from L.A., his won would often forget to turn off the electrical appliances of his room.
Writing in the book, he recalled: "Every night, I would see his light on. I went to see what he is up to, but the place was empty."
Chan asked him to stay mindful about switching them off but the young boy blissfully stated that the light made him feel alive so the father-of-two took matters into his own hands.
Chan called an electrician and split the wiring of the house, stating: "From now on, you can pay your own electric bill."
In another moment, the movie star wrote about a time when he and his son were booked onto a flight, with him sitting in first class while the junior was ordered to sit in economy.
"You have no money now, so you sit here," he told him, but his son was upgraded to first class after a stewardess upgraded him.
"You have me as a dad, but other people don't," the iconic actor said, trying to teach his son an important life lesson. "They have to fight their own battles. When you get to sit in first class, because of your own hard work, then that's success."
When talking of his decision not to leave his son any of his money and to donate it all to charity instead he said: "If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting mine."
While Jaycee Chan did try and embark on a career in the music industry, he didn't find any major success with his work. And things only got worse in 2014 when he was arrested in China for the possession of marijuana along with Taiwanese actor, Kai Ko.
He pleated guilty to the charge and spent six years in prison before being released in February 2015.
