‘The Mandalorian’ actor Gina Carano is fired after sharing offensive Instagram post

Gina Carano has been axed from The Mandalorian after sharing an offensive post on social media.

In the message, the Cara Dune actor compared the Holocaust to the divisive political climate in the US.

Yesterday (February 10), a spokesperson for Lucasfilm said in a statement that Carano is no longer employed by the company and there are "no plans" for future employment.

The spokesperson also went on to say that Carano – who played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Star Wars series – had shared "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts.

According to Deadline, the statement reads: "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

The actress and former MMA fighter reportedly shared a post to her Instagram Story that compared the current political climate in the US to the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

The post, which has been widely shared online, reads:

"Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children.

"Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.

"How is that any different from hating someone for their political views."

Carano had also sparked controversy when she seemed to mock people who share their preferred pronouns online by writing the words "beep/bop/boop" on her Twitter profile.

She later wrote of the mock-pronouns: "Beep/bop/boop has zero to do with mocking trans people & to do with exposing the bullying mentality of the mob that has taken over the voices of many genuine causes.

"I want people to know you can take hate with a smile. So BOOP you for misunderstanding."

She also shared posts that cast doubt on the result of the 2020 US presidential election. Moreover, she had previously mocked the use of masks to protect against the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
