Miles Merry cast as killer Bryan Kohberger in movie about Idaho student murders

Miles Merry has been confirmed to star as Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger in an upcoming movie about the horrific Idaho student murders.

On November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students, Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle, were fatally stabbed in an off-campus house in Moscow, Idaho.

The atrocity took place at around 4AM, and two roommates - Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke - were left unharmed.

The killer was later identified as Bryan Kohberger, who was then a 28-year-old PhD student completing his first semester at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, located less than eight miles west of Moscow.

His arrest and conviction was aided by DNA discovered on a leather knife sheath he had left behind on Mogen's bed.

The prosecution had pushed for Kohberger to be handed the death penalty for his brutal crimes, however, he eventually pleaded guilty in order to be handed the lesser penalty of four life sentences to run consecutively without the possibility of parole, as well as a further 10 years for burglary.

Lifetime has now announced that it will tell the story of the heartbreaking murders as part of its 'Ripped from the Headlines' series, which also previously covered The Murdaugh Murders.

The network confirmed, as reported by The Sun, that the role of Kohberger will be played by veteran TV actor Miles Merry.

This latest casting will be the third time Merry has appeared in a Lifetime Ripped From Headlines production, having previously starred in Devil on Campus: The Larry Ray Story, and The Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez.

Merry has also appeared in Netflix’s Untamed and Firefly Lane, as well as guest-starring on episodes of NBC’s The Irrational, as well as CBS’s So Help Me Todd, and Fire Country.

The Idaho Murders production is set to be produced by Navid Soofi, who has previously made several other hit Lifetime movies, and it will be directed by Steven A. Adelson.

The film is believed to focus on the month-long investigation leading to Kohberger's arrest, with the synopsis reading: "After four University of Idaho students are brutally murdered in their off-campus home, detectives race against time to identify the killer.

"The investigation eventually uncovers chilling clues that lead to Bryan Kohberger (Merry), a seemingly quiet criminology PhD student, as the only suspect."

It adds: "In this story that gripped the nation, shocking details emerge about Kohberger’s calculated actions and movements before and after the murders.

"He eventually pleaded guilty to the horrific murders, bringing long-awaited justice to the victims and closure to a shaken community."

Production is expected to begin this month, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
