'Goodfellas' and 'The Sopranos' writers to collaborate on new mafia series

Showtime and Imagine Television Studios are reportedly developing a new hourlong mafia drama written by the writers of the acclaimed mob shows The Sopranos and Goodfellas.

As reported first by Deadline, the show will be created by The Sopranos producer Terence Winter, Goodfellas screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, and Empire's Brian Grazer.

The currently untitled series will reportedly be inspired by Pileggi's in-depth chronology of organized crime in America, from the point-of-view of the mafia's First Family.

After starting a career in journalism, Pileggi is now best known for writing the non-fiction books Wiseguy: Life In a Mafia Family and Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas.

These books were later adapted for the big screen by Martin Scorsese, for the critically acclaimed movies Goodfellas and Casino. Pileggi co-wrote the scripts for the movies with Scorsese.

Pileggi's work with the famed director continued up until last year, when he produced the acclaimed movie The Irishman.

And as well as The Sopranos, Terence Winter also created and executive produced HBO's period mob drama Boardwalk Empire, and co-created and executive produced HBO's gritty rock 'n' roll drama Vinyl.

Winter was nominated for an Academy Award back in 2014 for his The Wolf of Wall Street adapted screenplay

And as if this résumé of talent wasn't already hot enough, Grazer is currently working as an executive producer on the second season of Wu-Tang: An American Saga for Hulu, as well an Empire Cookie spinoff starring Taraji P. Henson.

He's also working on the doc-series SuperVillain: The Rise and Fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine for Showtime.

Therefore, it is safe to say that whenever this show hits our screens, it is going to be absolutely incredible.
