A Vietnamese travel vlogger has left social media users stunned after unknowingly dining next to one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
While filming a restaurant review in Japan, YouTuber Khoa Pug appeared blissfully unaware that he was seated right next to Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman.
In his May 11 YouTube upload titled “Khoa Pug sits down to eat with an Oscar-winning Hollywood star," the vlogger reviews sushi dishes with his usual focus, completely ignoring the A-lister just inches away.
It wasn’t until after the video was filmed and uploaded that Khoa realized who had been sitting beside him.
Social media quickly erupted at the unexpected celebrity cameo, with many fans in disbelief at how close he was to the Black Swan icon and how he didn’t recognize her.
“How the hell did he sit with Natalia Portman, one of the beautiful stars, and he sat there eating and ordering food,” one user wrote.
Another shared: “That’s Natalie Portman she’s so famous. You are so lucky," while a third quipped: "F***, sitting next to Natalie Portman, I'm sure I'd be shaking to death because I'm so crazy about her."
"Thor's wife sat next to him, on this side, be careful, if thunder hits you with a stick, you'll definitely become a lightning superhero... but I have to admit that you're lucky, even when you go out to eat, you meet a superstar," a fourth added.
In a comment under the video - translated for viewers - Khoa seemed to poke fun at his own obliviousness.
“I was sitting down to eat and saw customers constantly asking to take pictures of her,” he wrote. “I was so angry, I thought: 'How strange! The number 1 travel YouTuber in Vietnam is sitting here, not asking to take pictures, but asking to take pictures of the woman next to him.' Who would have thought.”
He also added in another comment: "Sitting down to eat with Thor's wife without even saying hello, so annoying."
While it’s unclear what the 43-year-old was doing in Japan, she’s had a packed schedule, having attended the Cannes Film Festival just days later on May 17.
Portman serves as both a voice actress and producer on the animated film Arco, which follows a 10-year-old rainbow child named Arco living in the distant future, the year 2932.
Arco’s first journey in his vibrant, multi-colored suit takes an unexpected turn when he loses control and crash-lands in the year 2075. There, he meets Iris, a girl his age who witnesses his arrival and takes it upon herself to help him find a way back home.
The movie is the first feature for director Ugo Bienvenu, who has also made short films Maman and L’entretien, and comic books.
