Salma Hayek breaks silence on Hilaria Baldwin 'Spanish' scandal

Salma Hayek has broken her silence on the Hilaria Baldwin "Spanish" scandal.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen Live this week, the Mexican actress took the opportunity to share her thoughts on the matter.

"Oh my god. That is crazy," Salma, 54, began. "Like, you know what, because a lot of my friends ask me, 'Oh, did you hear about this?' Oh my God …."

In the video below, Hilaria herself responds to the allegations that she's 'pretending' to be Spanish:

Salma, who worked with Hilaria's husband, Alec Baldwin, on 30 Rock, continued: "We all lie a little bit. She makes my friend happy. She's a good... she fooled me because she's such a good mother and she has five of them.

"And you know, I don't care. She, I'm sorry. I know I don’t mean to betray or hurt anybody's feelings. And I don't know if it's right or if it's wrong and I don't, I'm not gonna judge somebody just because of that one thing.

"And I think, I feel honored that somebody wants to be, their alter ego it's to be like something that is similar to my roots. It makes me feel proud that people are inspired because you know, I am Mexican Lebanese, but my grandparents, my ancestors on my mother's side are Spanish."

The mother-of-one added: "I think she's smart to want to be Spanish. We're cool. You know, it's a bizarre story. It is a bizarre story, but don't, we all create our own character in life. I mean, this might be extreme.

"Okay. I don't care. She's not, not a bad person, not a bad person, a good person, a good mother and a good wife. She makes my friend happy. She's very kind to me. And that's all I care about."

The allegations surrounding Hilaria surfaced in December of last year when Hilaria was accused of pretending to have Spanish heritage and an accent despite living and growing up in the United States.

Alec's daughter and Hilaria's stepdaughter Ireland Baldwin has also commented on the controversy.

"It's so pathetic that anyone would wanna play detective, and dig that deep into someone's life that they don’t know, don’t know anything about, how they were raised, who they were actually raised by. It's just kinda sad and pathetic," Ireland said in a video on her Instagram Story.

Hilaria was born in America and her parents are American – however, the family travelled to Spain regularly from an early age.

During an interview with the New York Times, the influencer didn't confirm how long she had stayed in Spain for: "I think it would be maddening to do such a tight timeline of everything.

"You know, sometimes there was school involved. Sometimes it was vacation. It was such a mix, mishmash, is that the right word? Like a mix of different things."
