John Mellencamp has shared a difficult update as his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, battles stage 4 cancer.
Teddi, 44, is best known for starring in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, was first diagnosed with stage II melanoma in March 2022 and the skin cancer was quickly removed.
In February 2025, she was hospitalized after suffering debilitating headaches for several weeks, where she was discovered to have numerous brain tumors, which had been growing silently for around six months.
Tragically, just a couple of months later in April 2025, Teddi confirmed that her melanoma had also progressed to stage IV, having spread to her brain and lungs.
In late 2025, she revealed that she has "no detectable cancer" making her "cancer-free", but would be continuing to undergo immunotherapy treatments to control the spread of the disease.
John has now shared an update on how Teddi is doing during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
The singer-songwriter, 74, revealed that Teddi has been "really sick", adding: "It’s not f**king fun. She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now."
John also shared a sweet anecdote about Teddi's childhood, laughing: "That kid used to call me up and I’d go, ‘Teddi, you can have a thought without asking me if it’s … you know, figure it out yourself. You don’t have to ask me everything, you know?"
The 'Jack & Diane' singer has five children in total - daughters Michelle, 55, Teddi, 44, and Justice, 40, as well as sons Hud, 31, and Speck, 30.
He added: "Girls, at about 12 you lose them and then about 21 they come back. I kinda lost mine."
Teddi revealed a hopeful update in October 2025, revealing on the Two Ts in a Pod podcast: "I had my immunotherapy yesterday and I did my scans and at this point there is no detectable cancer.
"When they told me, I was in such shock. I was like, numb. I’m still going to be having days when I’m feeling sick and stuff because I still am in immunotherapy, so I’m still fighting because you have to be."
She clarified that while the cancer was currently "gone", it is not considered to be in remission until a significant amount of time had passed.
Teddi explained at the time: "The way the [doctors] said it works, it’s like one year, then two years, then at three years you’re allowed to be considered … in remission."
She also told her followers in a new year's update: "2025 was not my year. Near-death has that effect on you.
"But as I close it out, I’m trying my best to be grateful for every moment that I’ve been blessed to have been given since.
"I’m not sure what 2026 will hold, but I know that I will never stop sharing with you the good, the bad, and the ugly. Being open and vulnerable helps me cope; and hopefully helps even one of you know you’re not alone in what life has you facing.
"And of course, this is also a reminder to get those skin checks. Have you made your 2026 appointment yet?"
