Halsey and her boyfriend got matching tattoos months before announcing her pregnancy

Halsey has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child, and it's now emerged that she and her boyfriend got matching tattoos months before making the announcement.

In what was very much an unexpected announcement, the 26-year-old singer posted a series of pictures of herself posing with her growing baby bump to Instagram.

Alongside rainbow and heart emojis, she simply captioned the pictures: "Surprise!"

The singer also tagged Alev Aydin in the post, who commented: "Heart so full, I love you, sweetness."

However, if the couple's matching tattoos are anything to go by, this is one pregnancy announcement that might not have been such a surprise to the pair themselves.

Halsey shows off her shaved head in the video below:

The couple were tattooed by Amanda Owley while they were on vacation in Joshua Tree Park last summer, and now Owley has revealed the meaning of the tattoos and the symbolic day they were done.

"They came in on Father's Day last year which is cute now that she's pregnant," Amanda told People. "At first, I didn't realize it was her because she was wearing a mask. I asked them to come in later because I was tattooing someone before them. She introduced herself as Ashley."

"They were laughing a lot the whole time. They were definitely really close," she added. "They were super humble and awesome."

The tattoo itself is of the word "seeds" and done in each other's respective handwriting, with Amanda stating that it was done to symbolize the "planting seeds into the ground of life."

Sadly, this is not the singer's first pregnancy, and in 2016, she revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that she suffered a miscarriage while on tour.

"I beat myself up for it," the then 21-year-old told Rolling Stone magazine. "I think that the reason it happened is just the lifestyle I was living. I wasn't drinking. I wasn't doing drugs. I was f**king overworked - in the hospital every couple of weeks because I was dehydrated, needing bags of IVs brought to my greenroom. I was anemic, I was fainting. My body just broke the f**k down."
