FKA Twigs reveals 'horrific' racist abuse she received from Robert Pattinson fans during relationship

FKA Twigs has opened up about some of the "horrific" racist abuse she received from Robert Pattinson fans during the course of their relationship in a new interview.

Buzzfeed reports that the 33-year-old English singer-songwriter, dancer, and actress opened up about her relationship with the Batman star in a new interview on documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux's BBC podcast Grounded.

In the interview in question, FKA Twigs (real name: Tahliah Debrett Barnett) touched on the experience of dating the actor, whom she dated for three years and was even engaged to before the two of them parted ways in 2017.

Per Buzzfeed, she stated:

"People just called me the most hurtful and ignorant and horrible names on the planet. It was really, really deeply horrific and I think it was at a time where I felt like I couldn't really talk about it.

"He was their white Prince Charming, and I think they considered he should definitely be with someone white and blonde and not me.

"Say if I was wearing a red dress, they would have a monkey in a red dress, or I was on a bike, they would find a monkey on a bike."

She continued:

"It had this massive dysmorphic effect on me for about six months to a year. Every time I saw my pictures, I would think: 'Gosh, I look like a monkey and people are going to say that I look like a monkey.'

"It's essentially bullying and it does affect you psychologically. Just for everyone to know: I now love how I look and I'm very confident and I feel really good.

"But it was deeply unfair at the time that I was made to feel so self-conscious and so ugly. It was a lot. That period was a lot."

FKA Twigs previously alluded to the cyberbullying she had been a victim of in a tweet made to her 433,000 followers on Twitter back in 2014. On September 28 she tweeted: "I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week."

However, despite all the hateful trolls she was exposed to, she made it clear that she holds no ill will towards Pattison himself, and stated that their separation was an amicable one.

These sentiments were echoed by Pattison himself in a 2019 interview with The Times, in which Pattison himself stated that he and his ex were still on good terms.
