Demi Lovato faces backlash for 'cuddling' turkeys before roasting a bird for Thanksgiving

Demi Lovato is facing backlash for posting a snap of her cuddling turkeys at an animal sanctuary only to later share a photo of her roasting her own turkey for Thanksgiving.

Taking to her Instagram story on Thursday, November 26, the 28-year-old singer and actress shared a picture of the roasted bird with her 93.3 million followers. Also included in the post were the words, "I'm thankful for all of you" alongside a black heart emoji.

This comes just weeks after Demi, as well as the Farm Sanctuary she visited, shared a picture of her cuddling a turkey.

"The turkeys were so excited to meet Demi Lovato at our California Sanctuary," the Farm Sanctuary wrote earlier this month on November 8. "Thanks for visiting, Demi, we loved having you!"

It then adds: "Choose compassion this Thanksgiving and sponsor one of our rescued turkeys."

The wholesome snap was also posted on the Farm Sanctuary's Instagram page, where the caption delves into the horrific conditions that turkeys killed for Thanksgiving face on factory farms.

"99% of the 46 million turkeys killed for Thanksgiving are raised on factory farms, in windowless rooms with up to 10,000 birds under one roof," the caption reads.

This is the moment Demi jokes about getting unengaged:

"This grim reality is a far cry from the values this holiday purports to promote. But it doesn’t have to be this way. And when our community comes together, amazing things happen.⁣"

And back in October, Demi herself posted a picture of her cuddling a turkey while at the farm - along with photos of her with other animals at the sanctuary.

Needless to say, the apparent hypocrisy didn't escape the notice of the 'Confident' singer's fans.

One person took to Twitter to write: "TODAY IN CRINGE: Demi Lovato poses with turkey in a photo promoting animal sanctuary that fights animal agriculture. Demi later makes turkey for Thanksgiving."

Another person wrote this alongside several crying emojis: "Demi Lovato at an animal sanctuary holding a turkey. Then proceeds to cook a turkey."

"I love you @ddlovato and I’m proud of your journey," a third person wrote. "But this has really bothered me. Was it THAT turkey?! Who just longed to live?!"

Demi has yet to comment on the backlash.
