Billy Joel is an icon because his music transcends generations, blending sharp storytelling with unforgettable melodies that have become cultural touchstones.
With a career spanning over five decades, Joel’s ability to craft songs like 'Piano Man,' 'Uptown Girl,' and 'We Didn’t Start the Fire' has cemented his place in American music history.

Sadly, though, in a statement posted to his Instagram account on Friday, the 76-year-old singer revealed that the condition "has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance." He added, "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period."
Joel expressed his regret to fans, stating, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding."
The canceled tour dates included performances in cities such as New York, New Orleans, Toronto, Liverpool, and Edinburgh. Many of these shows were co-headlining events with artists like Stevie Nicks, Sting, and Rod Stewart. Ticket holders will receive automatic refunds.

This announcement follows a previous postponement in March, when Joel delayed eight US tour dates after undergoing surgery and requiring physiotherapy. At that time, doctors expected him to make a full recovery. It is unclear if those medical issues were related to his current diagnosis.
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a condition characterized by a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain's ventricles, leading to symptoms such as difficulty walking, memory problems, and loss of bladder control.
The condition is relatively rare and can be challenging to diagnose, often being mistaken for Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. Treatment typically involves surgical intervention to drain the excess fluid, along with physical therapy.
Joel, known for hits like 'Piano Man' and 'Uptown Girl,' has sold over 150 million records and won six Grammy Awards during his 50-year career. He concluded a decade-long residency at New York's Madison Square Garden in July 2024, marking his 150th performance at the venue.
Despite his health challenges, Joel remains optimistic about returning to the stage in the future.
