Betty White's 100th birthday celebration event to still go ahead, organizers say

An event celebrating Betty White's 100th birthday will still go ahead, organizers have vowed.

On Friday, December 31, White's agent and close friend Jeff Witjas confirmed to People that the legendary Golden Girls star had passed away.

"Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home early this morning," Witjas said.

"I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again," he added.

White died just weeks away from her 100th birthday, which she would have celebrated on January 17.

Prior to White's passing, an event called 'Betty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration' was scheduled to take place on her birthday as a way of honoring the beloved Hollywood star.

But the show must go on, and the organizers of the event have confirmed to the New York Post that the event will still go ahead as a means of celebrating White's life and career.

The event’s producers, Steve Boettcher and Mike Trinklein, told the outlet that the tribute - which will play in movie theaters for one night only - will aim to "provide a way for all who loved her to celebrate her life".

"Our hearts mourn today with the passing of Betty White. During the many years we worked with her, we developed a great love and admiration for Betty as a person, and as an accomplished entertainer," Boettcher and Trinklein said.

They added: "We are thankful for the many decades of delight she brought to everyone. Betty always said she was the 'luckiest broad on two feet' to have had a career as long as she did. And honestly, we were the lucky ones to have had her for so long."

According to The Post, the movie will explore White's life "behind the scenes" and her relationships with friends, peers, and family. It will also shine a spotlight on White's advocacy for animals.

The movie will also feature some of White's closest associates and friends, including Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Jay Leno, Carol Burnett, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Valerie Bertinelli, James Corden, Wendy Malick, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
