Cardi B offers to cover funeral costs for victims of fatal Bronx fire in New York

Cardi B is stepping up to help her fellow New Yorkers by covering the funeral costs of those killed in a tragic Bronx fire.

The rapper and songwriter pledged to help the victim's families, telling TMZ:

"I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal."

"I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy," she added.

The blaze engulfed a 120-unit tower in The Bronx on January 9, taking the lives of 17 people and injuring many more.

Victims ranged in age from just two years old to 50. Thirty-two were hospitalized and 63 total injured, CNN reports.

Believed to have been started by a faulty space heater, the fire was the deadliest in New York City since 1990.

Cardi B - who grew up in the Bronx - said in a statement: "I am extremely proud to be from the Bronx and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still.

"So, when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help."

The artist is partnering with The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City to make sure that the families of all the victims are included in her donation.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said they were "grateful for Cardi B" and described her as "a real superstar on and off the mic."

"The city will be forever thankful to her and also to the grassroots donors and corporate partners who have been able to offer immediate support for our neighbors in need, to reestablish themselves during this difficult time," he said in a statement.

Alongside Cardi's donation, the state of New York will also be granting $2 million to a fund for the victims.
