Cameron Diaz says she thinks she was once used to smuggle drugs into Morocco

Cameron Diaz has made a startling revelation that she believes was once used as a "drug mule" in the early nineties.

The 49-year-old actress appeared on the Second Life podcast and revealed to the host, Hillary Kerr, what happened when she lived in Paris, France, as she embarked on a career in the fashion world.

Recalling back to the early days of her career, Diaz explained that, in the United States, she had made money as a catalog model, but in Paris, she had struggled to find success.

"I didn’t work a day. I was there a full year and I didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life," the Charlie's Angel star recalled.

Diaz said that one day, she ended up getting a job and it was vastly different from modeling, saying: "I got like one job but really I think I was like a mule carrying drugs to Morocco – I swear to God."

The Mask actress explained the unusual modeling assignment, and said she was given a locked suitcase to transport from Paris to Morocco "that had my 'costumes' in it … quote, unquote".

However, it wasn't until she arrived at the airport that she realized that she was carrying illegal substances, so she started panicking.

"When I got [to the airport], the guy was like whose suitcase is this, can somebody open it? And I was like … All the calculations in my head went running back," she said.

Diaz remembered thinking during the incident: "What the f*** is in that suitcase? I’m like this blonde-haired blue-eyed girl in Morocco, it’s the '90s, I’m wearing torn jeans and platform boots and my hair down. I’m like … this is really unsafe."

The actress clarified that the incident happened before strict airport security measures had become normalized in global airports. Luckily, she avoided a possible drug trafficking jail sentence and left the suitcase with the officials.

After the France-Morocco debacle, the actress had her big break in Hollywood as she booked her first-ever acting gig as Tina Carlyle in The Mask opposite Jim Carrey.

Diaz, who hasn’t starred in any projects since 2014, has also announced recently that she will be making a long-awaited comeback to the big screen in the upcoming film, Back In Action, alongside Jamie Foxx.
