Betty White's hometown to mark her 100th birthday with special holiday in her honor

Betty White's hometown is set to honor her in the best way following the late TV icon's death at the age of 99.

The Golden Girls star - whose career spanned over eight decades - died at home on Friday, December 31, 2021, less than three weeks before her 100th birthday.

Now, she's being honored with Betty White Day on her birthday January 17 in her Illinois hometown, TMZ reports. Oak Park, Illinois, is establishing the new holiday this year, village president Vicki Scaman told the outlet.

As part of the celebration, Oak Park businesses, including Mickey's Restaurant, will create and offer their own Betty White specials. Mickey's will sell a meal made up of some of White's favorite foods.

Per TMZ, the special will include a hot dog, fries, and diet coke. White told People in 2012 that "hot dogs and Red Vines and potato chips and French fries" were her "favorite foods."

Betty White Day will also include a mural contest. The winning design of White will be painted in Oak Park's downtown.

White was born in Oak Park in 1922, although her family later moved to California. According to TMZ, White returned to visit the Illinois town years after she left.

It comes as White’s agent Jeff Whitjas confirmed news of White's death to People, and has now issued a follow-up statement to the Associated Press about the star's cause of death.

Witjas confirmed that White did not receive a booster shot on December 28. Social media users falsely claimed White said: "Eat healthy and get all your vaccines. I just got boosted today."

In a statement on Monday, Witjas said: "Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home. People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true. She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived."

Addressing the false quote, Witjas added: "She never said that regarding the booster. Betty died of natural causes. She did not have the booster three days before she died."

Witjas told People in a statement last Friday that the beloved actress "died peacefully in her sleep at her home" that morning.
