Woman nurses two-legged huntsman spider back to full health as it regains all its legs

Most people who find a big hairy spider in their house will be inclined to either squash it under their boot or set their house on fire - but not Elina Walsh.

After discovering a two-legged huntsman spider in her home in Townsville, Australia, Walsh knew it would most likely not survive without her help, so she decided to nurse it back to health.

And, amazingly, the spider - named Peggy - has since regrown her missing legs (scroll down to see).

Speaking to ABC, Walsh revealed that she was unsure if Peggy would be able to survive without six of her legs, and considered ending the spider's life. She said:

"Initially my thought was she wasn’t going to make it and I considered putting her out of her misery.

"I did a quick Google search and found out that spiders can in fact regrow legs, so I thought I would give it a go.

"I am a huge animal lover, normally huntsmen aren’t my favorite choice of animal but I kind of felt sorry for her and tried to help her out."

To ensure Peggy survived, Walsh spent the next month feeding her adorable arachnid small cockroaches with tweezers and giving her water from a soaked cotton ball.

Per news.com.au, Walsh is used to having rather unorthodox animals around the house - already owning a scorpion, snake, and blue-tongued skink (I also have no idea) as pets.

Peggy even has her own social media pages, so her fans can follow her progress.

In honor of her efforts and kindness, Walsh has also been recognized by animal rights group PETA Australia with a Hero To Animals award, with spokesperson Emily Rice saying:

"We take our hats off to this compassionate woman, who displayed great care and respect for Peggy and went above and beyond to save her life.

"Spiders are sentient beings with a will to live, just like humans, and they all deserve the same kindness and respect that Peggy has been shown by Elina."

Writing on Instagram, Walsh said: "Here it is. The moment you've all been waiting for! Peggy surprised me with a new set of legs the other night. New legs are smaller than her other two but fully functional. What amazing creatures!"

Walsh now plans to wait until Peggy has another molt before finally releasing her back into the wild.
